l Make sure that cribs have a snug fitting mattress and narrowly spaced slats. Keep all cords and strings, including blinds and curtain cords, out and away from cribs.
l Never let children play with plastic bags.
l Never allow children to fall asleep with bottles in  mouths.
l Help prevent poisoning by keeping all cleaning supplies, chemicals, medicines and cosmetics out of reach or in child-proof cabinets.
l Install smoke detectors and check batteries twice a year.
l Hold a mock fire drill with your grandchildren-- plan escape routes and arrange for a safe meeting place outside in case of fire.
l Never leave small children alone in or near water - including bathtubs, pools.



Personal Safety
Teach your grandchildren the following personal safety musts:
l To memorize their full name, address and phone number, including area code, state and zip code.
l How to use the telephone, how to make calls to the operator and how to dial emergency numbers.
l That a stranger is someone they and you do not know well.
l Never to enter a stranger's car or home.
l To keep the doors locked and only admit authorized people to their home.
